Genshin Impact and its expansive world is a free-to-play action adventure RPG that clearly draws its inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But don’t be fooled, this ain’t no quick copycat. The game has its own distinctive flavor and personality, as well as its own mechanics and RPG systems. It is a rich fantastical world that is an absolute blast to play. Most players are sure to become quickly addicted.

 

WHAT ABOUT THE STORYLINE?

In Gensin Impact, you play as a vague and mysterious traveler that comes from another world. As you’ve just arrived in the land of Teyvat, you are attacked and your twin gets captured. The main purpose of the game hence seems to revolve around you having to find your lost sibling. If there is one little downside to the story, it's that there is little cohesion in the storyline and it seemed to us like the capture of your twin was just a way of getting you started on your adventure. Not a big deal really, as you will quickly make your own stories exploring its beautiful world, meeting people, picking fruits, crafting items, fighting various monsters and facing mighty deities.

 

 

CHARACTERS THAT ARE FUN TO INTERACT WITH AND PLAY AS

 

One of the nicest things about Genshin Impact is most definitely its characters. Not only are they fun to interact with (even if you might sometimes laugh at what they have to say), they also are a blast to play. Each has its own fighting style, abilities and elemental affinities, making it a quest on its own to learn how to play each and every one of them. As you get more familiar with each character, you will discover new ways to interact with the world, as each element might give a character specific abilities to help in facing surrounding obstacles.

 

Combat lets you switch between a party of 4 characters, allowing you to shoot, hack and blow up monsters in varied fashion. Strategically switching characters in mid-fight will allow you to unleash deadly attacks and very effective combos (like getting a monster wet with water before unleashing lightning). Discovering how to use different characters together to optimize their abilities will keep you busy for some time and is sure to make a big difference in key fights.

 

 

ONE THING ALWAYS LEADS TO ANOTHER

One thing that’s pretty cool about Genshin Impact is that one thing always leads to another. You start exploring a portion of the world and this puzzle you just solved ends up opening a gate that leads you into a dungeon where you fight a boss that gives you a key that unlocks this chest containing a clue that leads you to yet another quest. And since every nook and cranny of the world is susceptible to having a collectible, a hidden chest, a puzzle to solve, enemies to take down or dungeons to explore, you will quickly lose yourself in this addictive chain reaction of events that always lead you to yet another thing to do.

 

 

DID SOMEONE SEE AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM?

 

Yes, Genshin Impact is entirely free. Yet, some people seem to see a big elephant in the room: its gacha model (aka loot boxes). It might be tempting to spend in-game currency or real money to purchase loot boxes that contain randomized characters, loot, consumables (and more). Although this system flirts with pay-to-win, it seems to me like the elephant in the room is actually just a small poney that can take you a little farther a bit quicker. At the end of the day, those who would rather not spend can still enjoy the whole game, and loot boxes are absolutely not required to advance. Even if it might take you more time, there is nothing you can’t get in the game without a bit of luck or persistence. Exploring the world and progressing through the game stays fun the whole way through regardless of money spent.

So what is our verdict? Due to its amazing open world, its beautiful graphics, its exciting combat and deep tactical gameplay, we give Genshin Impact the title of “One of the best and most exciting games we’ve played in recent years”. With frequent updates that always bring new characters, events and things to do, we believe this is a game that has a bright future.
